In addition to meeting the immediate needs of homeless people, HAP strives to break the long-term causes of homelessness by matching volunteer attorneys with community groups that
develop housing and other services for homeless persons. These volunteers assist with a variety
of legal issues such as zoning matters, tax issues, and nonprofit incorporation.
HAPs program is
vital to community groups because it enables them to apply their scarce resources towards
developing housing and other services for homeless people rather than towards costly legal
fees.
